AlgaEnergy signs the United Nations Global Compact
21 4月, 2021The biotechnology company joins the more than 12,500 signatories of this initiative around the world, which seeks to strengthen private sector alliances to achieve the SDGs.
AlgaEnergy has signed the United Nations Global Compact, the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative, supported by the United Nations (UN) and comprising the principles and values of the UN. In this way, the biotechnology company is committed to incorporating 10 universal principles related to human rights, work, the environment and the fight against corruption in its strategy and operations, as well as to act in a way that advances social objectives and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
AlgaEnergy's adherence to this global initiative is another example of the biotechnology company's commitment to achieving the SDGs. In fact, through its activity, AlgaEnergy contributes directly to meeting 11 of the 17 SDGs and, in line with its unequivocal commitment to sustainability, has integrated them into its business strategy and vision.
In relation to AlgaEnergy's adhesion to the UN Global Compact, Augusto Rodríguez-Villa, President of the company, has indicated that “signing this important Global Compact is a good example of our commitment to a more sustainable development, in all senses of the word sustainability (environmental, social and economic). Not surprisingly, we have recently become the first B Corp company in our sector worldwide, which is an unequivocal accreditation that our company, and the team that makes it up, value and prioritize respect for people and our planet.”
The Global Compact is based on the vision of former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, who, at the 1999 World Economic Forum, called on business leaders to partner with the Organization to create a 'global impact' in a matter of shared values and principles in order to bring a human facet to the global market. Today, the Global Compact plays a crucial role in strengthening business collaboration with the United Nations.
