The objective is to develop techniques for fractionation and stabilization of substances of commercial interest, obtained from biomass of microalgae and cyanobacteria.
AlgaEnergy, based on basic research and its own know-how, as well as that acquired, has the mission of promoting new basic research lines and, at the same time, applying and improving at industrial level the performance of the developments already obtained on a laboratory scale.
This decisive commitment of AlgaEnergy for R&D is evidenced by the wide portfolio of projects that it leads or in which it participates with a prominent role. The biotechnology company specialized in the microalgae sector adds one more project to that portfolio, with which it seeks to develop techniques for fractionation and stabilization of substances of commercial interest obtained from biomass of microalgae and cyanobacteria, using sustainable and advanced techniques of high pressure. Endowed with a budget of 100,000 euros, it will be carried out in collaboration with a research team from the University of Cádiz, led by Dr. Teresa Fernandez Ponce.
Microalgae are a sustainable and renewable alternative for the production of high added value bio-compounds. In this context, this new project, framed in the ERDF Operational Program in Andalusia for the period 2014-2020 and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), focuses on the concentration of substances that have recently aroused commercial interest in their biological properties, within very diverse industries such as agriculture, food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
AlgaEnergy leads and participates in international R&D projects whose global investment already amounts to more than 80 million euros. It works in them, always as the only microalgae company, with more than 150 scientific partners (universities, research centers and companies), all of them also firmly committed to progress and sustainable development.
